MOMMA HOLLI'S MEDITATION

CHILDREN OF PEACE

i often write poetically when expressing concerns or observations
about my children.
"we never quite realize exactly what or how much we've taught our children
until they begin teaching us."
that's one of the more profound truths i've been gifted with.
and what my grown up children are teaching me now is patience.

i gaze at them in utter amazement and sheer delight
as they diligently struggle with doing the next right thing....
or when they trip up....doing the next  best  thing....
doing the next thing  right!

and i sometimes want so bad to just jump in there and do it for them.
but if i want them to learn how to age gracefully -
to become productive, responsible, confident and stable adults,
then i need to be modeling that for them     now!

which means i usually need to stand back and watch them
solve their own conflicts and find their own way
while keeping myself flexible
and willing to negotiate the terms of my availability.
i remind myself constantly the importance of honesty.

honesty breeds honesty,
contentment breeds contentment.

i am a peaceful warrior
who has no enemies.
i am indeed , only a mother -
a very grateful mother
with children
who daily teach me what they've learned.
